We are heartbroken over the loss and destruction left in the wake of Maui's recent wildfires. Despite the challenges and emotional turmoil, we have witnessed the Maui community coming together to address the needs of friends, families, and even complete strangers. Our community has displayed remarkable strength and resilience as we cared for and continue to care for one another. We are proud to be a part of this community and will be here to lend a hand in whatever ways we can in the days, months, and years to come.
If you were directly impacted by the wildfires, you have immediate access to our Emergency Relief Program, which includes:
We are thankful that all our employees are safe and accounted for. Unfortunately, several of them have lost their homes and are in the process of finding housing and rebuilding. We are giving them time off to ensure that their needs are met, and they are ready to return to the workplace.
By sheer miracle our Lahaina Branch is still standing and appears to have escaped major damage, however it is in the area classified as a disaster zone and it is unlikely that we will be reopening it anytime soon. We are in the process of securing a temporary space at the Fairway Shops in Kā'anapali, so that we can begin serving members on the westside as soon as possible. We will be sharing updates with you as they become available.
The outpouring of support that we've received has been heartwarming and much appreciated. Many of our fellow credit unions throughout the country and Hawai'i, as well as our mainland partners, have reached out to see how they can help and have made contributions to support our community, members, and employees.
Please know that we are with you for the long haul and will do our best to support the recovery of our Maui community.
Mahalo nui loa,
Gary Fukuroku, CEO / President
